December 2018 Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius
Mercury rules Gemini and Sagittarius is its Shadow, so this retrograde will be interesting. It suggests the revelation of international missteps. Because
Sagittarius rules the courts, past misdeeds and missrepresentations may surface. In 2017, the December retrograde in Sagittarius presented a clash between the US, NATO and the United Nations.
Pre-Shadow begins in Scorpio on October 29 at 12:50 am UTC* (October 28 at 8:50 pm EDT) shown on the preceding chart.
Mercury Retrograde Begins in Sagittarius (13o 30") at 1:33 am UTC* on November 17 and 9:33 pm EST on November 18.
Mercury Retrograde Ends at 9:22 pm UTC* on December 6 in Scorpio (27o16").
Post-Shadow Ends on December 24, 2018 at 11:26 am UTC*.
Using the 2018 Mercury Retrograde Calendar
The calendar shows the three phases and four significant points of each Mercury Retrograde Cycle. Mercury appears retrograde when it is on the far side of the Sun
from our perspective on the earth. Its motion is direct when it is on the near side relative to the earth.
The Pre-Shadow
The Pre-Shadow is the phase when mercury passes over the part of the sky that it will later be retrograde. Often this phase sets up the errors, false assumptions
and omissions that are revealed during the retrograde itself. It is shown in blue. As Mercury slows down towards the retrograde, the effect is strengthened, and this is shown in violet.
The Retrograde
The Pre-Shadow ends with the Mercury Retrograde Station, as Mercury appears to hang in the sky, as it is about to go backwards and behind the Sun. It is during the
retrograde phase that the areas that Mercury rules tend to bring up challenges, especially in communication, scheduling and detailing. This phase is shown in pink. During the beginning and end
of this phase, Mercury is moving more slowly and the effect is stronger. This is shown in a darker color.
The Post-Shadow
For the next two weeks or so, Mercury enters the Post-Shadow as it moves in front of the sun and over the part of the sky it had been previously retrograde,
Typically, the Post-Shadow reveals the errors, false assumptions and omissions that may have occurred previously, especially during the earlier phases of the cycle. This phase is shown in
brown with the days Mercury is still moving slowly emphasized with a darker color.
Mercury Retrograde is Really About Not Being Centered
At its core, the experiences of mercury retrograde are the consequences of actions that occur when we are disconnected from our core and center. It is then that we
act from our tunnel vision, from assumptions without checking or being aware.
Although we can not do much for the actions of others, we can certainly do our own part for ourselves. If you seek to do this I recommend a book that
illumines the practical path to do just that: Being
Centered.
